National Service Center

Located in the heart of downtown Mendota, the Pohl Agency, Mendota's oldest and largest insurance, became the Pohl Agency division of Tropp & Company in 1997. Tropp's new association with this established firm included the purchase of its 100-year-old building.

This two-story office building had for years housed the Pohl Agency on the first floor and Mendota Community Theater on the second. The restoration, which began in the summer of 1998, converted the downstairs of the building into a reception and seminar area, and the upstairs into a modern servicing facility.

The renovation was done by Phalen Steel Construction Company, a local contractor. The upstairs portion was entirely gutted and refurbished, including the removal of a number of interior walls, and the addition of a door and fire escape in the back. Since the downstairs area had been renovated a few years earlier, the interior of the first floor did not require very much work. However, the entire front entryway was removed and rebuilt, with only one door in the middle, replacing the former design with a separate door for the upstairs.

The bright, modern work area upstairs and formal reception and seminar area downstairs combine to provide a great place for Tropp & Company employees to work. The building offers traditional design, with modern capabilities and plenty of room to expand.
